Ofer Eitan Reviews: Rick Fox tears up after massive Riot donation during LoL

During a League of Legends charity stream at the All-Star event, Echo Fox founder Rick Fox was moved to tears after a huge donation towards hurricane relief for The Bahamas came in from Riot Games’ Social Impact Fund.

Despite his departure from the Echo Fox organization that he was instrumental in founding, Rick Fox is no hurry to move away from esports, and has taken to using his platform to help people in need.

Rick is the president of the Bahamas Relief Foundation, a charity foundation dedicated to raising money, awareness, and hope for people in the Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian. Dorian was a category five storm that hit the Bahamas tremendously hard in early September this year.

Rick announced that he would be hosting a 24-hour livestream during the League of Legends All-Star event in Las Vegas, with all donations going toward helping people in the Bahamas. Rick’s father is from the Bahamas, and Rick spent much of his childhood living there.

During the second half of the stream, a very tired Rick couldn’t contain his emotions as the Riot Social Impact Fund, Riot Games’ philanthropic venture fund that works with LoL players to work on global issues, donated a hefty $10,000 donation to push the total, at the time, to $39,000.

Rick blamed being tired as the reason why he was unable to hold back tears of gratitude.

The Riot Social Impact Fund has already donated over $4 million on players’ behalf to promote equality in education, opportunity, and global citizenship. The fund is seperate from the developer’s main business ventures.

According to Fox’s charity’s website, $10,000 can go towards fully repairing five complete homes in the Bahamas.

After 20 hours of streaming, Rick posted a heartfelt thank you to fans who had donated, and to the members of the League of Legends community who had joined him on stream, including Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, Tyler ‘Tyler1’ Steinkamp and Moe ‘Yassuo’.

As of writing this article, the donation total for Rick Fox’s stream has eclipsed $45,000. The stream will continue until 3pm PST/6pm EST.

Rick Fox reached a settlement with the Echo Fox organization in October, officially marking Rick’s departure from the organization he founded. He said he is moving on towards new ventures in esports, including a greenlit esports-inspired comedy on the CBS network.
