Thanksgiving closing

The Maud Marks Library, 1815 Westgreen Blvd., will be closing at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving. It will reopen at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2.

Katy Lions Toy Drive

The Katy Lions Club toy drive, supported by Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, is conducting a toy drive through Dec. 1. They are looking for new, unwrapped toys, DVDs, games, craft supplies and sport-themed items. Drop-off sites include Brookshire Brothers, Fussell Senior Citizen Center, The Grand Parkway, Time Square Entertainment, Katy Fire Department, Katy Branch Library, Katy Police Department, Katy Printers, Tank’s Paintball Sugar Land, Katy Hardware, Outback Steakhouse, Heritage Vision and fire stations 3, 4 and 5 of the Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department.

Toy Drive

The Katy Fire Department Station No. 1, 1417 Ave. D, is serving as a donation drop-off site for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation and the Katy Lions Club. Donations of new unwrapped toys are welcome until Dec. 1.

Willowfork FD toy drive

Willowfork Fire Department and the U.S. Marine Corps are collecting “Toys for Tots” Drive between Nov. 18 and Dec. 13. Donations of new and unwrapped toys in original packaging for infants through high school ages, gift cards, or checks made out to Toys for Tots may be brought between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to Station 1 at 24655 Westheimer Parkway, Station 2 at 26950 Cinco Ranch Blvd., or Station 3 at 2700 Spring Green Blvd. in Katy. YMCA Turkey Dash

The 17th annual YMCA Turkey Dash presented by Houston Methodist West Hospital will be Thursday, Nov. 28, from 7-11 a.m. at the Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch, 22807 Westheimer Parkway, Katy. The event includes a 10K, 5K, one-mile kids race and a one-mile walk/run. The post-race party will feature food, giveaways, a photo booth and a kids fun zone. Participants are encouraged to dress up for the races. Enter solo or as a group in the fifth annual costume contest. Prizes awarded to “Best Thanksgiving Theme” and “Most Unique Costume.” All proceeds go to the Better Us Campaign to provide scholarships to YMCA programs. Holiday closings

All branches of Fort Bend County Libraries will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Dec. 1, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular library hours will resume on Monday, Dec. 2. The online library is always open at for searching the catalog, renewing books or placing holds, streaming movies and music, downloading e-books, or using the research databases.

Blood drive

Snooze an A.M. Eatery will host a blood drive with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center from 8 a.m.-noon Friday, Nov. 29, at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. The donor bus will be parked behind the restaurant. All donors will receive a free pancake courtesy of Snooze and a gift from Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Visit to register.

MKT Christmas Tree Lighting
