Children and staff at Ocker Hill Academy in Tipton have come together to take part in the Ocker Hill Academy 2.6 Challenge.

Teachers set the youngsters the challenge to help keep them occupied while the school was closed.

The challenge has seen hundreds of students take part in activities such as running 2.6 kilometres, cycling 26 miles, baking 26 cookies, completing 26 somersaults and running 26 laps around their gardens.

Staff have also taken part in the challenge, their activities include running 26 kilometres and taking part in 26 dance workouts.

Since the challenge was launched last month, the school community has almost £1,200 in total through their online JustGiving page, with donations still coming in.

All of the funds raised during the challenge are being donated to Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust charity.

Mr Joe Farmer, vice-principal of Ocker Hill Academy, said: “We have been overwhelmed by both the level of participation from pupils and staff alike and the generosity of the academy community.

“Pupils and staff have take taken part in a wide range of activities.

“It has been an incredible effort from everyone involved who are all very proud to raise money for our NHS who are continuing to serve us so bravely.”
